How to read this list
“Public-facing” means ordinary end-users (consumers, prosumers, or frontline workers) can open an app or website, type or speak to the model, and get an answer—no specialised SDK or paid-only API required.
Growth is rapid; niche startups (e.g., Aleph Alpha, DeepSeek, LightOn) and domain-specific tools (e.g., medical or legal LLMs) are emerging but are not yet considered major by global user base or funding scale. Expect the landscape to keep shifting as open-source models and on-device LLMs mature through 2025.
