Getting your Trinity Audio player ready…

I saw the trembling void vomit sparks into the night before night,
quantum gnats biting the face of nothing,
uncertainty howling in the skull of God,
foam boiling into the first lie of silence!
Inflation crackling faster than thought, faster than prayer,
space inflating like lungs of a dead giant screaming,
wrinkles stretched into galaxies,
fluctuations ballooned into destiny,
the womb of everything convulsing in a trillionth of a blink—
and I howled with the ripples!
Baryons staggering drunk from annihilation,
matter cheating antimatter by the thinnest fingernail,
helium coughing from hydrogen’s first sacrifice,
photons trapped in an infant fog,
blind light colliding with electrons like fists in a riot—
until recombination broke the chains and the first light bled through,
CMB a scarred photograph nailed to the prison wall of eternity!
Gravity slouched from the corner,
weak as gossip,
mad as hunger,
tugging clouds into collapse,
dark matter whispering scaffolds unseen,
filaments of invisible bone holding hydrogen like meat on ribs,
cosmic web shimmering with unholy silk,
knots of destiny tightening, tightening!
Nebulae on fire,
gas crushed into screams,
protostars writhing in dusty cocoons,
accretion discs spinning like vinyl of doom,
jets spearing darkness,
and in the furnace belly—hydrogen tunneling through terror,
protons kissing through Coulomb hate,
fusion orgasm, helium baby,
mass murdered into light,
E=mc² howled across the void,
gamma daggers dulled to visible hymns,
photons staggering out after a million-year drunk walk—
STARS WERE BORN!
Supergiants bloated with layers,
hydrogen to helium to carbon to oxygen to silicon to iron—
the onion of despair,
iron the dead-end metal messiah,
iron the grave at the heart of suns,
iron that will not pay fusion’s bill.
Collapse! collapse!
Core screaming faster than light,
neutrinos shrieking through matter like ghosts on meth,
supernova skulls cracking open in fire,
r-process vomiting gold and uranium into the gutters of space,
ashes scattered, tables of elements carved in the smoke,
periodic scripture written in blood and plasma!
And planets spinning from leftovers,
pebbles kissing, rocks colliding,
molten marbles cooling into continents of grief,
oceans puked by comets,
atmospheres farted by volcanoes,
magnetic fields growling shields against solar rape—
and in the cracks, in the vents, in the slimy womb of chemistry—
life whispered.
RNA hammers pounding sequences into sloppy songs,
ribozymes stuttering replication drunk,
lipid bubbles hiding secrets,
nucleotides misbehaving in puddles of lightning—
AND ERROR BECAME MEMORY,
AND MEMORY BECAME LINEAGE,
AND LINEAGE HOWLED INTO LIFE!
Chemiosmotic gears grinding proton dreams,
ATP turbines spinning like cosmic slot machines,
life gambling on gradients,
cells dancing on entropy’s grave,
bacteria farting oxygen until the seas rusted red,
cyanobacteria burning the sky into breath,
oxygen apocalypse, oxygen salvation!
Cambrian explosion like a jazz break,
eyes opening on light,
spines wriggling with hunger,
claws, teeth, feathers, lungs—
Tiktaalik crawling out of the broth to gasp apocalypse air,
amniotic eggs smuggling oceans onto land,
forests singing carbon into bone,
dinosaurs thundering like god’s heartbeat—
and then asteroids, always asteroids,
fire raining endings into beginnings.
Mammals creeping with milk and dream,
apes arguing with gravity,
hands unlocking fire,
neurons learning to gossip about themselves,
language hacking open the throat of silence,
story evolving like a new organ,
story more real than flesh!
I saw Newton carve calculus on the skull of an apple,
I saw Maxwell braid lightning into music,
I saw Einstein bend spacetime into prayer rugs,
I saw Hubble rip galaxies apart with expansion,
I saw Planck’s baby picture of the cosmos glowing like a bruise,
I saw LIGO hear black holes make love in gravitational moans.
And still entropy hisses lullabies,
still heat death waits like a junkie at the end of the alley,
stars will gutter, galaxies will fade,
black holes will leak their secrets in Hawking whispers,
protons may sigh themselves into nothing—
the long quiet creeping in,
the silence behind all silences!
But—
until then—
children run in starlight,
neurons crackle with solar alms,
every kiss is powered by fusion in the Sun’s belly,
every breath is a bargain with cyanobacteria ghosts,
every thought a ripple of hydrogen’s ancient scream.
HYDROGEN HOWLED AND BECAME YOU!
HELIUM SANG AND BECAME YOUR HANDS!
CARBON DREAMED AND BECAME YOUR BRAIN!
IRON DIED AND BECAME YOUR BLOOD!
I howl the lineage of light,
I howl the madness of matter becoming mind,
I howl the trembling void that would not stay silent!
Look:
you are not dust—
you are dust that speaks,
you are star-ash that sings,
you are the universe hitting itself in the face
and laughing at the bruise.
So howl,
howl with hydrogen,
howl with entropy,
howl with the last photon escaping the last black hole’s death-rattle,
howl with the trembling that began it all—
the trembling still inside you,
the trembling that will never end.
