Application Compatibility and Code Refactoring
Migrating the database layer from IMS to relational has profound implications for the application programs that use the database. This is why subject matter experts and original developers (if available) are invaluable during code migration – they know the intent behind the code and can help catch any discrepancies.
The scale of application changes can be massive. A case in point: the insurance company Provinzial’s migration involved over 16,500 COBOL programs with 25 million lines of code that had to be handled
