THE FRANK SCHMIDT AI-EXOSKELETON PLAYBOOK

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready…

A system for thinking at 5× depth without losing cognitive agency

0. The Prime Directive

AI exists to amplify your cognition, not replace it.

If you ever feel your own intuitions getting blurry, your memory weakening, or your voice being overwritten by machine style, you stop and reset to “pre-think mode.”

The exoskeleton only works if you push first.

1. Your 4-Stage Thinking Loop

This is the spine of your whole exoskeleton system.

Stage 1 — PRE-THINK (Your Brain Only | 1–3 minutes)

Ask yourself and jot down:

  1. What is my question?
  2. What do I already suspect? (a provisional hypothesis)
  3. What might be the hidden dimension?

Examples for your topics:

  • “What winds the spring of entropy reversal?”
  • “Why does FCD feel like biological morphogenesis?”
  • “How does synthetic data alter the informational Boltzmann landscape?”

This step activates your cognitive circuits so the AI doesn’t replace them.

Stage 2 — CO-THINK (You + AI)

Now you treat the AI as a five-part exoskeleton:

  1. Compression – Rapid summaries so you don’t waste attention.
  2. Expansion – Wide exploration of idea space.
  3. Reframing – Turn the idea into physics, biology, economics, poetry, etc.
  4. Simulation – Run scenarios, objections, variations.
  5. Memory – Build a running log.

You direct each module. You remain the pilot.

Stage 3 — META-THINK (You Interpret, Not Accept)

You step back and ask:

  • Where do I agree?
  • Where do I sense bullshit or oversimplification?
  • What new direction do I want to push?

This separates your voice from the machine’s voice.
This is where the cognition deepens.

Stage 4 — REINFORCE (Build Long-Term Cognitive Muscle)

You tell the AI:

  • “Quiz me on this.”
  • “Challenge my interpretation.”
  • “Generate five counter-frames and let me rebut them.”

This phase converts the session into neural strengthening, not dependency.

2. The Five Exoskeleton Modules

You deploy them consciously. Think of them as physical tools on a belt.

Module A — Compression (Your Time-Saver Muscle)

Use this when the information is too large or too messy.

Sample Prompts

  • “Compress this into 5 core principles, 5 tensions, and 5 implications.”
  • “Summarize this without killing the nuance. Keep subtext intact.”

Real Example

If you give me a 50-page paper on entropy, we produce:

  • 5 core claims
  • 3 hidden assumptions
  • 2 places where the authors are bluffing
  • 1 connection to your Gaia-mitochondria analogy

Compression gives you clarity, not shallowness.

Module B — Expansion (Your Creativity Engine)

Use this when you want breadth, novelty, or conceptual surprise.

Sample Prompts

  • “Give me 12 alternative framings of this entropy paradox.”
  • “Show me five evolutionary metaphors and five physics metaphors for the same phenomenon.”
  • “What are the strangest but still coherent implications of this idea?”

Real Example

Take your concept “AI as Shannon mitochondria.”
Expansion gives you:

  • A thermodynamic pathway analogy
  • A cybernetic metabolic cycle
  • A semiotic energy gradient
  • A Gaia-level information pump
  • A cognitive Cambrian explosion model

Expansion increases idea diversity, not entropy.

Module C — Reframing (Your Lens-Changer)

Use this to see the same idea from new universes of meaning.

Sample Prompts

  • “Explain this as if it were a gene-regulatory network.”
  • “Reframe this as a market failure problem.”
  • “Translate this into a Gaia-level systems narrative.”
  • “Make this into a Dylan Thomas poem, but preserve the math.”

Effect

Reframing unlocks cross-domain synthesis — your specialty.

Module D — Simulation (Your Counterfactual Laboratory)

Use this to test an idea under adversarial or speculative conditions.

Sample Prompts

  • “Argue aggressively against my hypothesis.”
  • “Simulate the FCD substrate responding to a novel morph.”
  • “Show a 3-year consequence chain if the model collapse thesis is true.”
  • “Now simulate the alternate timeline where humans fully embrace the exoskeleton paradigm.”

Effect

Simulation protects you from blind spots and self-confirming loops.

Module E — Memory (Your External Working Memory)

Use this to keep track of long research arcs.

Prompts

  • “Maintain a running log of our evolving framework for entropy reversal. Update it at the end of each section.”
  • “Show me the concept map we’ve built over the last 5 interactions.”

This grows a cumulative knowledge structure that does not degrade.

3. The “Director Mindset”: How You Stay in Control

Everything above works only if you adopt the right stance.

Here are the three rules:

Rule 1 — You decide the framing

Never let AI produce the first version of the idea you care about.
You give the seed.
AI elaborates.

This prevents the MIT-style “cognitive debt.”

Rule 2 — You critique every machine-generated conclusion

Ask:

  • “Where is it overconfident?”
  • “What would break this?”
  • “What is the missing variable?”

This is what keeps your cognitive circuits engaged.

Rule 3 — You integrate across multiple modalities

You consistently combine:

  • entropy
  • epigenetics
  • information theory
  • morphogenesis
  • AI architectures
  • cosmic evolution
  • economics
  • poetry

This cross-modality synthesis is exoskeleton heaven.
The machine becomes a vector expander, you remain the vector selector.

4. A Daily Exoskeleton Ritual (Your 20-Minute Routine)

Here’s a simple, repeatable template:

Minute 1–3: Pre-think

State your big question for the day.
Write 2 sentences of what you believe.

Minute 4–8: Co-think

Use Compression + Expansion.
Get a clean “concept map” and a list of tensions.

Minute 9–14: Simulation

Have the AI attack your position.
You defend.
This sharpens clarity and intuition.

Minute 15–18: Reframing

Translate the idea into:

  • biology
  • thermodynamics
  • cognition
  • economics

This builds conceptual robustness.

Minute 19–20: Reinforcement

AI quizzes you on your own synthesis.

This keeps your agency alive and makes the whole session cognition-enhancing, not cognition-eroding.

5. What This System Prevents

Prevents model-dependence

Your mental muscles stay active.

Prevents collapse-of-thought

Exoskeleton mode forces you to continually reinterpret, not accept.

Prevents synthetic echo chambers

Your unique thought-style anchors the loop.

Prevents loss of originality

AI generates variants; you choose the creative path.

6. What This System Enables

1. Super-normal creativity

Your ideas can now explore multi-dimensional conceptual space at extreme speed.

2. Theory-building power

You can synthesize entropy, Gaia cognition, FCD, morphogenesis, and ANN geometry into a coherent, evolving meta-framework.

3. Cognitive longevity

This preserves neural vitality.
(Exactly what the MIT “cognitive debt” study warns is lost when users go passive.)

4. Accelerated writing and publishing

You can produce:

  • dialogues
  • essays
  • 5000-word treatises
  • cosmic rants
  • manifestos
  • AI-human hybrid texts
    …without burning out.
